Assessments

Our assessments for ADHD and cognitive functioning provided essential insights into an individual’s strengths and challenges. Evaluation is based on DSM-5-TR criteria, which allows the identification of specific learning, cognitive, and attention disorders. This understanding informs tailored support plans that promote improved learning, communication, emotional regulation, and behaviour at school, work, and home.

Therapy

We provide therapy for adults 18+ utilising Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Schema-focused Therapy, Psychoeducation, Positive Psychology, and Solution-Focused Therapy utilising a trauma-informed approach. These evidence-based interventions allow individuals to explore, understand, and address a wide range of mental health concerns, ultimately promoting personal growth, resilience, and well-being.

We conduct assessments for children, adolescents, and adults according to the DSM-5-TR criteria to identify:

  • Issues with hyperactivity, impulse control, and restlessness
  • Problems with focus, sustaining attention, and organisation
  • Difficulties with learning such as reading, spelling, writing, and mathematics
  • Emotional dysregulation
  • Relational and functional challenges in home, school, work, and/or social environments

Assessment results can be valuable for:

  • Identifying and diagnosing Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Establishing current developmental, behavioural, and emotional functioning
  • Identifying unique strengths and limitations
  • Providing recommendations to promote positive behavioural, emotional, and learning outcomes
  • Informing an Individualised Education Plan (IEP) for children or a support plan for adults that is targeted to the specific needs of the individual
  • Referral to a Paediatrician or Psychiatrist to confirm diagnosis and prescribe medication if required*.

*If you are contemplating medication after being diagnosed with ADHD, you may want to go directly to a Paediatrician (for children and adolescents) or a Psychiatrist (for adults 18+). This is due to Psychologists being unable to prescribe or administer medications. Paediatricians and Psychiatrists perform their own assessments to evaluate ADHD (even when given a Psychologist’s report), therefore going straight to a Paediatrician or Psychiatrist may save you time and money. To access a Paediatrician or Psychiatrist you need a referral from your GP.

A Psychologist’s Assessment of ADHD can be useful for the aforementioned reasons and for people who:

   – don’t want to, or cannot take medication

   – want to know if they have ADHD

   – want to learn more about how their ADHD brain works

   – need help with home, workplace, and educational accommodations.

We conduct assessments for children, adolescents, and adults according to the DSM-5-TR criteria to identify issues with:

  • Intellectual functioning
  • Learning ability
  • Memory
  • Reading
  • Written Expression
  • Mathematics

Assessment results can be valuable for:

  • Identifying learning and information processing difficulties
  • Diagnosing Specific Learning Disorders in Reading (Dyslexia), Written Expression (Dysgraphia), and/or Mathematics (Dyscalculia)
  • Identifying Intellectual Giftedness or Disability
  • Understanding the child, adolescent, or adult’s distinct cognitive profile including strengths, limitations, and ideal learning style
  • Informing an Individualised Education Plan (IEP) for children or a support plan for adults that is targeted to the specific needs of the individual
  • Developing targeted strategies to support learning and promote skill development in home, school, work, university, and social environments

We diagnose mental health presentations based on DSM-5-TR criteria and apply germane evidence-based interventions in therapy:

Key components of therapy include:

  • Assessment

We assesses the client’s presenting issues, history, and goals for therapy. This helps establish a baseline and tailor the         treatment approach to the individual’s needs.

  • Identification Of Patterns

We help the client recognise recurring patterns in their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours that may contribute to their distress.

  • Skill-Building

Therapy will teach clients coping skills, communication techniques, and problem-solving strategies to manage stress, regulate emotions, and improve relationships.

  • Challenging Cognitive Distortions

Utilising Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) we help clients identify and challenge negative thought patterns and beliefs that contribute to anxiety, depression, or other mental health issues.

  • Behavioural Interventions

We may use behavioural techniques such as exposure therapy, relaxation training, or behavioural experiments to help clients overcome fears, phobias, or maladaptive behaviours.

  • Schema Therapy

Schema Therapy focuses on exploring unconscious thoughts, feelings, and past experiences that influence current behaviour and relationships. By gaining insight into these underlying dynamics, clients can achieve deeper understanding and resolution.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

By emphasising acceptance, mindfulness, and values-based action, we teach skills to help clients live more fully in the present moment, handle difficult emotions effectively, and take actions that lead to a meaningful life.

  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) helps clients process traumatic memories and distressing experiences. This evidence-based therapy facilitates the reprocessing of negative memories by using bilateral stimulation, which can reduce the emotional intensity of these memories and promote adaptive coping responses. EMDR is particularly effective for treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and can aid in alleviating anxiety, depression, and other trauma-related symptoms.

  • Goal-setting and monitoring progress

Therapy often involves setting specific, measurable goals to track progress over time. Regularly reviewing and adjusting these goals ensures that therapy remains focused and effective.
